Hello!
July has been one of slow resumption, I've started working again on a proposal and even a possible short story. Anything brand new is still harder, even the drawings I finished were redrawings or old characters. But I'm especially glad about this Hyppolite.
It has also been interesting to try a sketchbook again, frustrating at times, but the whole situation has made me think a lot about my process and relationship to work. All those bad habits or limiting beliefs you let slowly take hold. So I'm slowly coming back to work, trying to bring with me healthier mindsets.
Stuff I read
The No-Girlfriend Rule by Christen Randall
This is not a novel you should read if you don't want to deal with teen boys being idiots, but I still felt the author balanced the unpleasant and pleasant parts pretty well. It's actually a story that shows a process of change and healing in a very sensitive way. And of course, it's especially lovely for enjoyers of dnd who survived all the sexism surrounding it. Extra love for the fat and neurodivergent characters.
The Guy She Was Interested in Wasn't a Guy at All by Sumiko Arai
I've been reading it for a while and somehow forgot to talk about it. The webcomic is serialized weekly on the author's socials (of course in Japanese), but has now been released in print. The name is pretty self-explanatory, about the plot and the comedic vibe. And as someone who pretty much only listened to rock as a teen is even nostalgic.
Stuff I watched
If you're up for telenovela levels of drama with a plot that wouldn't exist if people talked in the first episode for 5 minutes, I recommend this series. I didn't know I needed to watch a lesbian telenovela, but this thing is super fun and the couple is the cutest. New episodes are out on Thursdays and you can watch it on their official YouTube channel (link above).
See you next month!
